about

Haunted, dark, remote and isolated - yet possessed of a stark and strange beauty - "Laide" is the story of a handful of late-Autumn days spent in the remote Highland hamlet of the same name. It was a curious time - simultaneously joyful and sad, fun and awkward, comforting and anxious. The music reflects these conflicting emotions, the sense of disconnection from "normal" life and the sights and sounds of the natural environment.

Conceived as a long-form performance piece, "Laide" was presented and recorded live on the 19th of March 2022 at LTB Showrooms in Coventry - a world and a season away from the strange days spent in Laide. A combination of pre-arranged tracks with live lead parts improvised around a theme, the work was recorded in a single, continuous take before a live audience.

These instruments feature in this work:

Arturia MiniBrute Analog Synthesiser
Doepfer System-100 Modular Analog Synthesiser
Ensoniq SQ-1 Digital Synthesiser
Moog Theremini
Roland System 1M Semi-Modular Synthesiser
